Preface
Hi there! Thank you for taking time to read about our community, Critical Mass. We are a fledgling community which started development little over a year ago. During development, setbacks were encountered, ideas were exchanged and people came and went. All of these things has made Critical Mass what it is today.
Introducing Critical Mass
We are a CW:HL2RP CityRP community striving to set a new standard for the way CityRP is experienced. Our mission is to continously improve and innovate, always in the interest of you, the player. With a staff team that has a shared cumulative total of roughly 21 years of HL2RP experience, all of whom from different environments, we have a great dynamic that offers a plethora of perspectives which allows us to think out-of-the-box and deliver fresh content to deliver you that unique roleplaying experience.
Our concept stems from our passion to create a community which players are proud to be part of. A community that offers a whole array of activities to do for players of all shapes and sizes. Having owned several communities in the past which sadly failed, I've decided to give all of my past mistakes a good look and see how I can improve them, together with my trusty team. This resulted in the still ongoing experiment: Critical Mass HL2RP
Roleplay Style
People often ask the following question: "Is this P2L or roll based?" Short answer: We're doing everything based on rolling. We are using the D&D style rolling plugin, but we've decided to take it a step further; Not only do your set attribute points affect the roll. Additionally, any piece of equipment, any augments, you name it, also have an effect on the roll. We feel that this creates a very realistic basis for any RP scenario. Besides this, we are also implementing roll debuffs in the very near future.
Factions
No HL2RP server is complete without several factions to choose from. Let me begin by stating the application process: We will be using IC applications. The reason for this is because we feel that this is the most accurate way to assess somebody's roleplaying capabilities for the whitelist in question. To mitigate whitelist abuse, we have created a Registered Citizen system. What this means?
To be able to undergo IC applications, you must first apply to become a Registered Citizen on our forums. This is a fairly short application process in which you give some information about your character and a short backstory. Upon acceptance, "Registered Citizen" will be added to your in-game player record.
This may seem like a complicated process, but it's actually fairly simple. You only need to write up one backstory to apply for every whitelist during your stay at Critical Mass.
Currently, we have the following factions:
- Metropolice Force
- Overwatch Transhuman Arm
- Civil Worker's Union
- Civil Service Workers
- UU office workers
The Metropolice Force, as it stands, is currently roughly the same as what you're used to. The current difference is the rank names. However, we are planning to slowly transition the faction to a whole different experience.
The Overwatch Transhuman Arm has been revamped with the addition of two divisions, each with their own set of obtainable ranks.
The Civil Worker's Union will primarily focus on commerce and stores, as has always been the case.
The Civil Service Workers, however, will focus itself on non-steady employment, work cycles and a (WIP) courier service, which delivers goods from a warehouse to stores. Furthermore, the CSW also offers the ability for an individual to own a store. However, they have a smaller assortment, but they also pay less taxes over their store profit.
The UU office workers are here to keep the bureaucracy of City 17 tightly organized. Be it keeping track of store profits or potential recruits for the Metropolice Force, the UU office workers will arrange it.
Another faction is currently in the works, which brings me to the following:
Regular content updates
After a while, it will get boring if you stick to the same routines every day. We understand this like no other. This is why we're aiming to do regular updates to the server and its gameplay mechanics. The way we do it, is that we write up, develop and test new features which will fit hand-in-hand with eachother, before officially releasing them together. This continuously adds new gameplay elements and different perspectives to City 17. However, none of this happens without at least some input from community members.
Lore
The server is set in 2019, 5 years after the 7 hour war. During this time period, it has only been recently since the Universal Union managed to create a somewhat stable society. Some places on Earth are yet to have urban metropoles built, causing massive crowding in the current cities. The Lambda movement has been hunted down during a 3-week time period, known as the Dawn of the Dark Days, following the events of the City 03 incident, in which a band of Lambda infiltrators managed to effectively decimate UU control over the city. This turned the slums from a beacon of hope into a hive of crime. (For the full lore, click here)
Flow
Every server has its own way of story progression. Here at Critical Mass we believe in a fully-dynamic environment. Events don't follow a set storyline, and there's no certainty for any characters; not even my own. This means that the HoS (our version of SeC) can be PK'd at any given time during any given event. To maintain order, however, staff members GM events to guide players into progressing their story.
Why should I choose Critical Mass?
We will always be giving it our utmost to ensure the highest quality of roleplaying to you. We think that, while sticking to a lot of standard HL2RP things, we have quite a lot of unique ideas that will be interesting for players to play around with. Besides this, we have a highly competent staff team eager to help and eager to deliver great content.
Sweet! Where do I sign up?
